Hearts in Darkness - Keri Arthur Once more there was action right from the start and I definitely love that about this series.

Keri Arthur certainly found a great mix between Paranormal, action and romance but I have to admit that I like the actions parts best. She has a knack to draw you in more with each chapter and that makes it hard to take even the smallest breaks from the book, I kept thinking: “Ohhh, just one more chapter, I need to see what happens now.”

It’s probably not easy to keep that kind of pace and yet it works perfectly. I also liked the changes in Nikki and Michael although I take small issues with the ‘I love you’ being thrown around after they knew each other technically only one week and then haven’t seen each other for 6 months. But hey, that’s just my personal preference and a really small detail that was fast forgotten and I have to admit that it was nice to see Nikki fighting and not hopping onto the angst train with Michael.

As much as I like Nikki and Michael as standalone characters, I can’t quite warm up with their relationship or maybe I’m just projecting Michael’s negativity. I hope that and the angst portion when it comes to their relationship will change with the next installment. This time around Michael’s reasoning against a relationship was a little easier to understand though – even more so after meeting Elizabeth.

The writing is really good and I loved seeing how all the different paths came together in one big picture. A pleasant surprise were the fire imps as I haven’t read about anything quite like that yet and I hope there will be more elements like that in future books.

All in all, solid 4 stars for a second installment that kept me curious and on my toes - I look forward to the next book.
